This beautiful children’s labyrinth was added to the playground of the former Washington Irving Middle School when the Sumner and Philbeck Elementary Schools in Boston were merged into the Sarah Roberts K–9 campus. To the untrained eye, the site is just painted lines on a blacktop — but to a labyrinth aficionado, this is a gateway to a meditative state and mindful walking for Boston Public School children. While strolling the labyrinth check out the beautiful murals added by artist David Zayas (IG @zayasart) in 2025 to inaugurate the opening of school. Access tips: To find the labyrinth, walk down the staircase to the left-hand side of the Cummins Highway entrance or for wheelchair accessibility, circle around to Hawthorne Street (rear school entrance) and make your way to the playground on the right-hand side of the building.
