Many times you will be encountering the same problems that others have had before, so check the list below to see if the solution is provided. We welcome your questions, so if you do not see it here, let us know.
Contact us with your update request and be sure to tell us which labyrinth (title and town/city please) and we will take care of it for you. To add a photo to an existing listing (or change the photo already in place), send the image as an attachment via the link above, and again, be sure to tell us which labyrinth (title and town/city please) to add it to!
It may be a problem with a photo that you are trying to add – see the note below – but if all else fails, contact us with details of any error messages you may receive, and we will endeavour to assist you to get your labyrinth posted on the website.
It may be in the incorrect file format – our software prefers .jpg, .png or .gif – or it is simply too big for the upload buffers. Try resizing it or saving it as a .jpg, as appropriate. Likewise, photos with lengthy file names or illegal characters (periods and dashes, for instance) may cause problems. If all else fails, send the image as an attachment via the contact us page and be sure to let us know which labyrinth to add it to.
If most of the submitted details are correct, and just a minor tweak is required, it will be easier to submit it as is and then contact the webmaster via the contact us page and let us know which labyrinth and what needs correcting.
You have probably provided too much information – it is actually saying there are no labyrinths that match all of the details you have specified – the search utility works best when you only complete one, or just a few fields at a time. The more fields you complete, the more you narrow the search. Try starting with just your country, state/province or city, and then try again with progressively more fields filled/selected. The WWLL search utility is a powerful tool, but it is rather literal, it will only give you exactly what you ask for!
Check your spelling, and if you searched on a smartphone or tablet device, it could be because predictive texting is automatically adding a space after the city name – this confuses the search engine! Try again and be sure to delete any additional spaces or other characters or punctuation automatically inserted by your device software. You might also need to try different versions of certain city or location names – Saint, St. or St for instance – and with or without certain punctuation marks, etc. The search engine is sometimes tripped up by those!
Probably because nobody has uploaded them – yet! You might consider contacting the owners of the labyrinth(s) and encourage them to upload their details to our database, or if you have the information yourself, and the permission of the owners of the labyrinth, then please upload the details as soon as possible and make the WWLL database even more complete. We currently have over 6400 (including a few mazes) listed in more than 90 countries worldwide, and growing daily…
The precise location of many of the labyrinths in the Labyrinth Locator can be viewed by clicking the View Map button on the detailed listings. Click the button to see a Google Map with a red pin marking the location of the labyrinth and surrounding streets and general area. Click the plus or minus symbols to zoom in or out. If you also click the Show Satellite Imagery box in the lower left corner you will often see the labyrinth itself, if in an outdoor setting away from tree cover!
The location of many of the labyrinths in the Labyrinth Locator (especially those open to the public) can be viewed by clicking on the World Map in the navigation bar. This will show a Google Map with pins marking the locations of thousands of labyrinths worldwide. Zooming in to your chosen area of the map will reveal more and more individual locations. Click on any of these to show the name and city, and click again to open the detailed information regarding that labyrinth. The options of map or satellite view, labels and terrain can be selected and also street view where available.
It is important to remember that not all of the listings in the Labyrinth Locator will show on the maps, especially those on private property or in sensitive locations, travelling labyrinths with no permanent address and virtual labyrinths that exist only online. The search facility on the homepage will show all of these however.
The telephone numbers in the contact information might not be in the correct format if you are trying to call internationally – do check country codes and the format before you call, although an email to the owner of private labyrinths is often the best option. If you discover that the website links provided no longer function, please let us know and we will endeavour to find a current web address for the location and update the listing accordingly.
And finally… if you are planning to visit labyrinths listed on this website, it’s often a good idea to check the opening times and for any public holidays, etc., that might affect availability, and if the labyrinth is listed as situated on private property, please contact the owner to seek permission first, especially for those that are clearly in backyards or similar locations.
And if none of the clues above answer your question or problem, or you encounter other technical problems with the World-Wide Labyrinth Locator, please contact us with your questions or comments.
